Pet System
Pets are creatures that have either been domesticated or possess intelligence extraordinary enough for them to work alongside Humans. Basic pets are usually Animals, i.e., they should belong to the standard animal kingdom. However, high-ranked pets (A or S rank) can follow supernatural and mythological themes. Overall, pets can give their owners a tremendous benefit, which ranges from loyal companionship to a secondary backup in a fight.
General Information
There are a few key things to note before you rush off to create a pet. For instance, all pets start off as D-rank and at this point are considered as newly hatched/born babies. Pets can then rank up entirely for free by being involved in training threads, which can range from mini-adventures or taming, to even things such as teaching your pet how to perform tricks. The amount of posts in a training thread needed to advance to the next rank are as follows:
D – Starting rank.
C – 3 posts
B – 6 posts
A – 12 posts
S – Can only be obtained by questing.
One thing to note is that it is not possible to skip ranks. In order to hit B-rank, a pet must first reach C-rank. You may have also noticed that it is impossible for a pet to hit S-rank through through training. S-rank is a special rank that only belongs to the Alpha of a species. Due to this, it is only possible for a pet to hit S-rank through a special quest which can be taken as soon as your pet reaches A-rank.
It should also be noted that pets are by no means required to be of a certain size. For example, just because A-rank allows epic-sized pets, this does not mean that anyone is forced to restrict themselves to something of that size. A pet could, for example, remain small-sized all the way up to S-rank. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Smaller pets will be faster and more agile than the larger counterparts at the cost of being frailer. On the other hand, larger creatures will be tougher and stronger at the price of being easy targets for enemy mages due to their bulky frames.
Pet Ranks
D – All pets start off as this rank by default. Pets of this rank are usually nothing more than mundane cubs or babies (small size).
C – While pets at this rank will still be mundane, they will now be fully grown (medium size) and possess strength equal to the real world equivalent.
B – At this point, pets will start to become slightly more supernatural and outside of the norm. For example, pets can now grow up to twice as large as the standard equivalent (large size). They may also gain one unique physical trait that they may not normally have such as hardened skin or the ability to fly.
A – Pets of this rank can now reach gargantuan proportions that would rival most dinosaurs (epic size). Pets of this rank are now comparable to creatures stated only in myths and legends. Not only do they possess unrivalled toughness, but also somewhat supernatural abilities such as the ability to breathe fire or unleash deafening roars that cause physical damage.
S – This is a unique rank reserved only for the King or Queen of an entire species (a species cannot have both a King and a Queen). Pets may only ascend to this rank after completing a unique pet-related quest (PM a member of staff if you wish to go down this route). Successfully helping a pet attain this rank will allow it to become the ruler of its species, making it naturally stronger in every way to its brethren.
Rules and Restrictions:
- No Dragon pets, period!
- Upon obtaining a pet, you must go through an entire thread of you taming them before it can be considered an ally.
- All pet species must be approved by two moderators.
- Please keep your pet reasonable (no demonic flying toasters).
- S-rank pets are automatically considered the King/Queen of that species by default (they are physically superior to their brethren and gain command over creatures sharing the same species).
- There can only be one King/Queen of each species.
- Any Mage can, by default, can only have one Pet.
- Training posts should be well written and involve a lot of interaction with your pet. The general rule of thumb for this is three paragraphs per post, however, there is leeway in this depending on the quality of the post.
- No living thing, including pets, can ever be stored in a Re-Quip/Ex-Quip Mage’s alternate space.
