Basic
Name: Shinzu Hayashi
Nickname: The Cowardly Lion
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Blood Type: O+
Level: S
Guild: Lion Heart
Skills:
Weapon Mastery: This skill represents Shinzu’s unparalleled close combat prowess in the arena with polearms and similar weapons such as lances or spears. Not only does this extend to being able to wield such weapons in close combat with an impressive level of skill, but it also stands testament to Shinzu’s deadly precision when resorting to using his weapon as a makeshift javelin. Foes reliant on magic or their fists will be at a disadvantage when faced against such an assault unless they too are highly proficient in their choice of weaponry.
Resilience: Having taken part in countless battles which have often lead to many life threatening injuries, Shinzu has developed somewhat of a high and almost inhuman resilience against pain. With this also stemming from his will to live, Shinzu’s threshold against exhaustion and other limitations that may restrict others is absurdly high. While this does not make him any stronger or faster than most enemies, it does allow him to combat stress, adversity and life threatening scenarios to a higher degree than others through sheer willpower.
Heightened Senses: Life in the arena helped hone Shinzu’s senses to the point where his gift of hearing reached a level far above his peers. Although there is nothing supernatural about his ears, Shinzu can often pick out quite a high level of detail from a simple sound, such as being able to judge distance and the direction of the source much better than a normal person. This acute level of hearing also allows Shinzu to pick out sounds that may otherwise be inaudible, such as honing in on a whisper amidst a crowd or being able to audibly recognize subtle noises such as the rustle of a nearby bush.
Description
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 180 lbs
Appearance:
Shinzu bears a rather slim figure that is attributed to his childhood as a malnourished slave. Although training and fights in the arena later improved on this and allowed the teen to develop muscle, for the most part his body typing never deviated from anything other than a standard athletically slim build. This fact is, however, usually kept well hidden under the folds of his clothing which normally consists of a pitch-black suit as per Lion Hearts’ dress code. Specifically, this choice of attire normally consists of slim trousers, a pearly-white shirt and a black blazer with a tie that contains Lion Hearts’ emblem emblazoned near the bottom in an almost blood-like shade of red. It is no wonder then, why Shinzu is often greeted by condolences by complete strangers who often mistake him at first glance for someone fresh out of a funeral.
Beyond all this clothing, the most striking feature of Shinzu are the numerous scars and gashes that litter his body from the neck down. While some are injuries from his days as a slave, most were sustained in battle and serve as reminders of his triumphs in the arena. However, most do tend to use them to brand Shinzu as a coward, such being evident from the fact that most of the scars seem to cluster heavily around the teens back. This stems from Shinzu’s tendency to turn away from his opponent in the heat of battle. Not as a sign of disrespect, but rather, mostly to run away or create some much needed distance between himself and the enemy.
Overall, Shinzu’s outward appearance is that of someone in his late teens. Although his cobalt-blue hair is swept back, it is visibly rough and untidy, with some strands even hanging over his forehead. From the back, this even ends in a long and unruly ponytail which usually flutters around like a scarf when in the heat of battle. However, as unnatural as his hair colour seems to be, the true point of focus are his eyes which possess as strange colour that seems to sit somewhere between a reddish shade of orange. It is due to all this that despite the formal attire, Shinzu usually gives off the appearance of an intimidating thug, which is something he never hesitates to use to his advantage.
Bio
Personality:
Shinzu is serious and attentive right down to the core. He often gives off an air of calmness and is not the type to show mercy or even hesitate when engaged in a battle. Often well spoken, he tends to drone on and never misses the opportunity to give a long winded speech, even if it may have nothing to do with the situation at all. He is also not the type to face foes directly and much rather prefers to fight with stealth and cunning. Every battle is an opportunity for him to make use of every ounce of his craftiness to gain the upper hand. Plainly speaking, no tactic is ever far too underhanded for him. In the end, all that matters is who lives and who dies.
On and off the battle-field, Shinzu is most often a level-headed strategic type of person. He's someone who takes in the entire situation and weighs the consequences before making a decision; however, the harsh reality of the matter is that he often prioritises his objectives over the lives of others. No matter how close, allies are often seen as nothing more than expendable forces, leading to great reluctance from others to ever complete missions with him. Despite this, however, he does know the value of life, or rather more specifically, his own life.
Although there are obvious threats and dangers that he comes across daily in his line of trade, Shinzu usually won’t be foolish enough to rush recklessly into a battle that he knows would be impossible to win. Though some may see this as a wise strategy, those close to Shinzu know that it is nothing more than cowardice. Due to his high regard for his own life, there have been numerous occasions in the past where he has acted cowardly in the face of a huge threat. More often than not, Shinzu can often be observed as being one of the first to flee and abandon his allies should the situation grow out of control.

History:
Most of Shinzu’s childhood is clad in mystery and unknown to him. Rumour and speculation has lead him to believe that he once originated from some sort of wealthy and influential family, though any and all facts end exactly there. He knows next to nothing about his parents and even less about the existence of a sibling who apparently ran away too. Overall, it can be said that the family was pretty dysfunctional and quite far from the norm for their only two children to have run away with little hesitation. In Shinzu’s case specifically, this was during his childhood when he was no older than around thirteen at most. For some unknown reason, however, he never could remember what drove him so far as to want to distance himself from his only kin.
Things never really took a turn for the better, however, even upon cutting all ties with his family. Shortly after abandoning his life, Shinzu was found on the streets by an unruly gang of thugs who forced him into a life of slavery and mistreatment. Forced starvation, torture and exhaustion were but a few words that could be used to describe his ill-fated life from that moment onwards. Things only really changed a few years later when Shinzu’s unnatural resilience became noteworthy enough for him to be sent to the mines; a fate reserved only for those physically strong enough to work all day and night in order to earn their masters a little extra cash flow in the form of harvesting rare minerals and magic crystals in harsh conditions that were never meant to house any life.
It was during this time in the mines that Shinzu uncovered the art of Phantasm Conjuration, which was mostly thanks to unearthing a set of magical crystals that bore the power of black magic. It was also thanks to this newfound power that Shinzu would eventually muster the confidence to escape his fate by staging an escape. Of course, with no real experience or knowledge of how to properly make use of magic in general, the escape ultimately failed and the teen was thrown into the arena in order to give the crowds one final show before his execution. Despite all intentions of giving up his life as forfeit in exchange for eternal rest, however, something strange and unnatural stirred within Shinzu that day. Rather than playing his part as a pawn, the teen took hold of a lance and slew his enemies one by one, one battle each day for five years until eventually, everyone would grow tired of his antics and give him his long overdue freedom.
