Description
Height: 5’1
Weight: 110
Appearance:
A fourteen year old girl of an average height and thin build. Alia is light-skinned with the slight beginnings of a tan. Her face is round in shape with a slightly pointed chin and her complexion is free of freckles. Her eyes are narrower in shape and a misty steel gray in coloring. Often she is masked with an expression of indifference or silent observation when walking through the streets on her own, but this expression quickly breaks once she finds some sort of chaos to get involved in. Her hair falls in a long dark curtain around her face and back, which she may occasionally hide under a hooded cloak. The girl may at times seem to be a bit unkempt from her escapades: it is not unusual to see her hair a bit unruly. She may have smudges of dirt across her face or clothing, or bits of leaves from having climbed up trees in order to get a high vantage point. The pants she wears may even faded or slightly torn and she has been known to wear clothing until they are on their last legs. She doesn't seem to hold much value in designer or fashion articles and would prefer to spend her money in other more "practical" ways.
Alia dresses in hooded outfits; whether it be a jacket or cloak, she prefers what can easily conceal her if the need arises. Her most common choice appears to be a dark chestnut brown long-sleeve with a thinly lined hood. Her need for blending in requires that her clothing not be of any bright colors but simple a plain; even black would attract too much attention from unwanted eyes. Not one for dresses or frilly feminine clothing, she sticks to the style of easy mobility and comfort, and so it is not unusual for her to be wearing worn brown pants and boots. Her tops are generally strapless tanks and just slightly revealing for her age. The mark of her guild is in silver and is revealed on the front right side of her neck, often somewhat concealed by her jacket or her hair. She moves with a swift light-footedness along with a keen always-ready awareness to surroundings. After all, you never know who might be around.
Weapons:
Carved Bow - Just an ordinary bow that was hand-carved by the equipper herself. Her weapon of choice, as she can easily manipulate the fired arrows with her magic. To add a sense of style; her bow tapers off at the ends and is engraved with the outline of thorny vines.
Quiver - Not a weapon per say, but where there is a bow there needs to be arrows. The arrows inside this quiver are all hand-carved from branches and various woods.
Items:
Steel Hunting Knife – rank D. An ordinary hunting knife, it is used mostly as a tool. It has no magical qualities and if used in combat, would only ever be used as a last resort or self-defense, often when target becomes too close. Also great for woodcarving.
Bio
Personality:
Raised in an environment of survival of the fittest, Alia's focus remains to that of her needs and wants. She will go to great lengths to ensure it is obtained and is indifferent to the amount of people she has to go through to get there. Injuring and killing doesn't seem to bother her much; it in fact seems necessary. She sees the world as full of promises for herself but with many people trying to block her from obtaining it. She will gladly take them out by any means necessary.
Despite having joined a dark guild, Alia isn't too fond of the concept of teamwork and can seem self-relient and a bit reclusive. What she wants, she gets herself, and so being grouped with other people can interfere. She will, however, grudgingly put up with this lifestyle if it means she gets to continue her life of crime without being challenged and reap the rewards. It's always good to have a frightening gang to back her up. After all, no one would be stupid enough to mess with a member of the Phantom Cloak.
Alia's criminal habits include thievery, arson, aiding in hits, as well as general chaos causing (which is usually a result of her severe boredom). She enjoys hoarding small valuables as well as jewels and any other possession that seems to cross her fancy, and it is safe to say that she never earned any of it legally. Basically, anything that will earn her prize money or valuables will strike her attention, and she hates sharing the prizes.
When it comes to her general behavior, Alia has a dismissive, contempt attitude towards most of her surrounding people. They just interfere with whatever she is planning or doing. She is mouthy and abrupt no matter the situation and always keen to taunt. She takes satisfaction in knowing she has angered someone and will press their buttons. Though impulsive, she is also clever and will evaluate situations before jumping right in; the trademark of a good thief is of knowing your surroundings. Any "innocence" or playfulness shown by this character is suspicious and will mean that she is up to something, and that something is never good. She often only smiles when she knows she has triumphed over someone. Or, you know, received prize money.
Likes: Hoarding trinkets, Food, Crafting/Wood carving, Stealing
Dislikes: Insects of any sort, rules, puppets, officials
Jobs: Will occasionally sell items on the black-market. Has a make-shift, self-run shop. Will sell items she steals.
Other:
She tends to stash mass items or valuables either on her person or in various odd hiding places. If you upset one of these hiding places she will most definitely come after you. She takes her "treasure troves" seriously and her items seem to hold more value to her than actual people.
She has an odd craft for wood carving small objects, which she does in her spare time. Sometimes she likes to bother the guild by placing them all over creation. So if you find a tiny bear sculpture placed in your bathtub, it's probably her doing.
When she gets bored, she craves causing some sort of chaos. It doesn't have to be logical chaos; sometimes it's just fun starting a conflict or watching people run from randomly fired arrows.
If you bring her food or trinkets then you are more than likely to gain her favor. She loves cake to a point that one would think it was gold itself.
She is afraid of insects and will scream like a little girl if one is crawling/landing on her. Also she will more than likely try to kill it... with arrows.
History:
A girl no one wanted. A girl who disappeared. Alia cannot remember a family life. Her earliest memory is of crawling around the run-down orphanage that she grew up in. Her life consisted of fighting other children for possessions and of constantly having little. At an early age the children learned to beg strangers outside for food and goods. Upon receiving little, they soon began to figure out that one could merely take what they wanted and could trick others into giving it to them. It was difficult as a young child; Alia learned that only the bigger and stronger of the kids would come out victorious. They would beat the younger ones and steal what they had just because they could get away with it. She was only six at this point, and soon began to grow a resentment towards others as well as a need to become more capable and strong.
On the streets, she saw a man who was running a weaponry stall. He was practicing with a bow and arrow and teaching his young son how to aim at a target. She watched them closely everyday from a hiding spot in an alleyway. After several weeks, she managed to snatch a bow and quiver from the back of the stall when no one was looking, and began to try to practice it by herself the way she had seen the man teach his son. The small girl soon found out that it was extremely difficult and not at all as easy as the man had made it look. After days of attempting on her own, she threw the bow down in frustration and began to cry. She didn't think she would ever be strong enough to beat the older children or to defend herself from them. At that moment, a figure stepped out from the bushes. It was the young son of the weapons merchant. He had seen her steal the bow and easily followed her to where she had practiced. He had been watching to see what she was doing and had not told his father about the theft, instead having told him that he had borrowed it himself. The boy offered to help Alia to shoot the bow if she promised she would not cry any longer.
A week and a half later of training and she was finally able to shoot an arrow without it falling off the bow. She still wasn't very good at aiming or hitting the target, but the young boy promised her that if she practiced enough on her own, she would be able to hit it. Every morning and afternoon Alia would scramble off into the woods surrounding the run-down town and retrieve the safe place she had hidden her bow and arrows. She practiced as hard and as long as she could, until finally an arrow embedded itself into its mark on the tree trunk. The glowing satisfaction was the only warm, positive feeling the child had felt throughout her life up to this point, and for once she didn't feel the overwhelming helplessness of being a small orphaned girl in a poverty-stricken area.
It wasn't until then that she had discovered her mage-abilities; though it happened unintentionally. Along with her bow, Alia had begun hiding her few personal possessions under the roots of a tree trunk to keep them away from the other children who would undoubtedly steal them from her. She had been cautious when sneaking out, afraid that they would follow, but after several successful
trips her guard had begun to lower. Then one afternoon, she returned to find that all of her belongings had been stolen. One of the older boys was standing beside a nearby tree and stuffing everything in his pockets. Everything except the bow and arrows, which had been tossed across the ground in a messy heap. Alia had felt herself burning with a newfound heated anger as she watched him. He still hadn't noticed her and had his back was turned while he occupied himself with examining the three small jewels she had acquired. What happened next was practically without thinking as the girl silently gripped the bow from the ground, raised it, and readied an arrow. She aimed it at the boy and without a moments hesitation, let it release.
There was a whir in the air, a flash of light as the arrow illuminated and then struck deep into his back. The boy collapsed to the ground heavily and lay choking and twitching, then fell unmoving. Alia had pulled back another arrow as she scrambled over and kept it pointed at the body. The boy's shirt was blossoming with red, but he was limp, cold and still. As she looked distractedly down at her arrow, she saw that brightened embers were now hopping from the tip and giving off a warm heat. Startled by the discovery, she immediately let go of the arrow. The shaft was set loose and embedded itself onto the ground beside the body. Embers began to catch on the dry leaves. Small, flickering flames began to leap up and eat the source until a fire had been formed and began to spread. The young girl had fled the body and the forest and ran into an unknown direction out of town as the trees began catching and falling. It was a dry season, and the forest didn't stand a chance.
The young girl eventually found herself in the streets of another part of town. She heard people talking about the fire, but no one questioned it or seemed to think it had been started by a young girl. Many supposed it had been an accident. Alia knew that killing the boy hadn't been an accident. She didn't feel much remorse for having finally conquered the threat to her childhood. Instead, she was more alarmed by the fact that whatever she had did, she had caused the fire with her arrows. She had heard about mages who could use magic to do strange things. Did that mean she too was a mage? Fascinated by this idea, she continued to practice with her bow and arrow. As the years passed, she discovered that there was more that she could do with her abilities if she tried really hard to focus her emotions on it. She spent this time period living on her own on the streets of town and the outskirts, moving from place to place, hideout to hideout. She stole what she could find and began to have a knack for such things with practice. She learned how to shoot her own food in the wilderness bordering the town when stealing wasn't enough.
Alia knew that being a better mage meant she would be able to threaten people for what she wanted. She came across the Adonis Village upon switching hidings, and strived to learn the ins and the outs of the black market, as well as the benefit of selling what she could steal. She then quickly heard about Phantom Cloak and how they ran the town. Their ideals appealed to her as well as their criminal lifestyle, and she knew that if she wanted a share of riches in this town, siding with them would be her best chance. That is how she became a new member of the dark guild, and is now working her way as a newly marked D rank wizard.
Magic
Mage Type: Bow Mage
Elemental Affinity: N/A
Example spells:
Spells:
Spell Name: Fire Arrow
Current Level: C
Range: Higher-range (depends on archer abilities)
Description: Fires an arrow whose tip is engulfed in flames. Damage depends on target, area, etc.
Drawback: Fire hazard; surroundings could prove spell to be dangerous if fire were to spread. Probably should not be fired indoors. Only you can prevent (or cause) forest fires.
Spell Ranks:
D – tip is lined with smoldering embers. Can catch things on fire depending on target. Hot!
C – tip is engulfed in flames.
Spell Name: Bomb Shot
Current Level: D
Range: Range depends on archer’s abilities. Explosion itself is only in close proximity to arrow.
Description: A bright arrow is fired that will explode upon contact. Damage dealt varies on level. At lower levels, this spell merely results in an explosion similar to that of a firecracker. Highest levels improve this spell’s power to that of an explosive.
Drawback: Firing in small, closed areas will lead to the containment of the loud noise, which could cause temporary hearing loss. Also emits a flash of brightly colored light that could render one temporarily blinded if too close to explosion, regardless of the real impacting damage the explosion may cause. The damage equivalent to that of a small firecracker is easier to manage in comparison to larger, more deadly explosions. High level explosions can be difficult to control the extent of it’s damage and require a large, sudden burst of magic to allow it to succeed. These higher levels should not be used too frequently in succession unless the mage can handle the immediate sapping of power.
Spell Ranks:
D – arrow has the power and force of a small firecracker. Not very damaging and needs to be fired very close to target. Fires with a loud crack and a small burst of light that doesn’t last a second. More effectively used to startle than to “attack”.
Spell Name: Rain of Arrows
Current Level: C
Range: Power boosts the range fired by the archer; arrows are propelled with more force at target.
Description: When a single arrow is fired, it will multiply into a several arrows ranging based on level. Lower levels = Three arrows minimum. Maximum of five. The range of the archer is improved as the magic propels the arrows with more force towards the target. Highest mage level creates an unrelenting stream of arrows that continues for as long as the mage can hold the power.
Drawback: Spell requires a lot of power and focus is difficult to improve and master. Magic has to be held for as long the arrows are in the air, until they have sought their target. Often draining.
Spell ranks:
D – Arrow splits into three separate arrows.
C – Five arrows can now be fired. Power increases from that of D rank.
Spell Name: Shock Shaft
Current Level: C
Range: Range depends on archer’s abilities.
Description: An arrow that is fired becomes electrified. When it reaches target, a foot of the surrounding area is radiated in currents of electricity. When fired at the ground by a person’s feet, can cause them to be temporarily stunned or inhibit their movements.
Drawback: Damage and success depends on target, some may be able to endure the reaction and force themselves out of the effect. Can be used to electrify water, for instance, but will have little effect if merely fired at other targets such as a tree with no near subjects. Increasing mage levels will increase the intensity as well as range one arrow can reach.
Spell ranks:
D – Arrow is electrified but will only affect the target it is directly embedded in, unless outside force allows it to be conducted and carried.
C – Electricity will now reach several inches from shaft. Works best if multiple arrows are fired around the same vicinity. Can stun for a mere five seconds or less
Spell Name: Focus Shot
Current Level: C
Range: high-range, improved distance
Description: A glowing arrow is released and rocketed towards a far distance with a strong force of power. Best used for “sniping”, allows archer to reach distances he/she may not have been able to shoot with a normal arrow and focuses the arrow on a target with more power.
Drawback: Requires more power to succeed. The more power, the more successful the arrow reaches its exact target from a distance. Distance is still limited; at lower to mid levels the arrow can be propelled to the archer’s capable firing distance plus a third. It is more difficult to increase the distance and power past such. The more power the mage is willing to give up increases the power of this shot.
Spell ranks:
D – Shot merely is propelled at a farther distance, to a third of the archers abilities past their full range. Power remains only slightly better than that of a normally fired arrow.
C – Power has increased, arrow is faster. The shining light around the arrow has grown and it is easier to hone in on small targets from a further distance.
